What Are The Two Faces Of Wrestling?

There is no other sport with two very opposite sides like wrestling. You can say that with basketball, you get the flashy street “balling” that is so far from the professional version of it, but when you talk about wrestling as a sport and as entertainment, you’d see the difference. Fact is, the WWE is nothing like college wrestling.

The WWE, WCW and other “professional” wrestling competitions are for entertainment, not sport. They look more like a made for the movies mixed martial arts, with people displaying a lot of moves from actual martial arts and mixing it with a lot of acrobatic stunts. And don’t forget about the drama. But amateur or classical wrestling, the one in the Olympics and college circuits is a far less entertaining but more disciplined art form. It requires years of practice as it is a tiring sport that tests not only the physical capabilities of its practitioners, but also their mastery of the techniques that it teaches. Go watch a wrestling match and at first look, it may look like two grown men, or women, trying to pin one to the ground in the most boring way possible. But try the sport and you will find that it is hard, tasking and is so far from all the useless pomp and flair of “professional” wrestling. It is, after all, a sport and thus requires a lot from its practitioners. So, if you want to get fit and also develop a skill you can use in the real world, take up the sport.
